What’s Fashionable In 2020?

Despite the fact that we can’t go to the stores and buy a plethora of new looks for the spring and summer, I still would like to share some of my favorite fashion trends, which are interchangeable for both seasons.

  1. Big Bags

I think lots of times, people underestimate the power of eye-catching accessories. Having the right accessories can really tie a look together beautifully. That’s why I’m so excited about this trend; there’s no accessory that I love more than a chic yet functional handbag. If you want to elevate your pair of shorts and a simple shirt in a smart way, then this is the trend for you. If your ensemble is more monochromatic, try to look for a big bag with a pop of color. However, a classy, nude-colored handbag would be perfect for any business look. The great thing about accessories, is that you can always switch it up to work with your outfit for the day. Be mindful of what type of a look you’re going for and your accessories will follow suit. An accessory, like a big bag, is completely versatile for any event or occasion. But for a lady who is constantly on the go and has to carry lots of stuff, big handbags are a functionality life saver. I don’t know about you, but I’m constantly on the go and always looking for ways to pack what I need if I’m in a rush. While these large accessories already provide lots of space, I would encourage you to look for a large handbag that has special additions inside, such as zippers and hidden pockets. At the end of the day, we all want to get our money’s worth. So, before you decide which big bag you want, reflect carefully about which one will give you the style and convenience level you’re looking for.

2. Corsetry

I know that this trend may make some people hesitant, but I’ve found that the corsetry silhouette can be quite elegant and classy. It’s all about finding the right fit for you.  This look should complement your natural curves, not the other way around. Once you find the right fit, it’s all about layering to get the desired look that’s uniquely you. I decided to go for a bit more edgy look by adding a crisp, white button-up shirt. I then played with the different angles I could make with the shirt to create some interesting symmetry. If you notice, the elements I added to bring the corset to the next level, really made a difference on the overall effect the corset had on my figure. Whether you pair your corset with a flirty skirt or a tailored pant, it’s important to think about how different elements will help elevate your look as a whole. Truly have fun with this trend and be creative about how to implement the corsetry effect. After all, that’s what fashion is all about.

3. Polka Dots, Polka Dots

This classic trend is completely different from the sexy, corset look we talked about earlier. However, it’s just as effective when implemented with purpose. You don’t necessarily have to go for the typical polka dot dress. I think a polka dot pattern could be the perfect thing to add a bit of pop to your outfits without it being overly distracting. Think about how quirky a polka dot, strapless top could be for any of your looks. I think this particular print adds a freshness to any look despite it being an “old-school” pattern. Plus, polka dots are versatile for any fashion profile. You could put a business look together or an eye-catching party look using polka dot print. When talking about polka dot print, or any print for that matter, it has to be done tastefully so use your prints wisely to achieve a beautifully, modern look.

4. Booty Shorts

I know some may be shaking their heads at this trend. Believe it or not, I was also shocked about booty shorts being a trend for this season. My first thought was, “I thought we moved away from the whole “girls need to show their goodies” movement. However, the spring/summer version of booty shorts are not what you think. I promise you that your cheeks won’t be hanging out for the world to see and you’ll be fully covered. This type of short is a simple but appropriate way to show off your glistening legs on a hot, summer day. It’s also perfect for outdoor activities and easy to move around in. If you’re not that risque and don’t want to show that much leg, I totally understand. But you can still ride the booty short wagon by simply layering your favorite leggings under your booty shorts. Whether you decide to go full-on legs or go the more conservative approach, these shorts will have you looking sexily-chic.

5. Vests

I have a variety of vests in my closet from denim vests to plaid-patterned vests. If you also have a substantial sum of vests to choose from, this season is the perfect time to try them all. Vests are an easy but effective way to amp up any look. They come in all different types of colors, patterns, cuts etc., which allows you flexibility to create something dynamic within any style. Vests serve as a statement piece, so it’s really important that you choose the right vest that will compliment your outfit. Because there are so many options when it comes to vests, I strongly recommend that you reflect on what type of vest speaks to you the most. Do you like your vests cut shorter? Do you prefer flowy or structured vests? Asking these key questions will help you narrow down which vests are worth investing in for your type of aesthetic.  But don’t stress too much about finding the perfect vest and don’t be afraid to try some new types; you never know what you might like.

A little bit of sparkle goes a long way.

6. SEQUINS!

Ask anyone I know and they’ll tell you how obsessed I am with sequins. Sequins is honestly my favorite fabric and I wear it every season, every year. Sequins is such a fun and playful texture that it definitely brings out my complexion. A little bit of sparkle goes a long way when you want to achieve a fresh and youthful look. Because sequins has such a strong pop, you don’t have to drown your clothes in sequins. A small embellishment of sequins on your top or dress, can truly turn any of your pieces into statements. If you decide you want to go a little bolder in the sequins department, then by all means go for it. However, any glimmer of sequins will have heads turning and you’re certain to be the life of the party.

7. Side-Slit Skirts

I absolutely adore fun and flirtatious skirts, which is why I’m so excited about this trend. Side-Slit Skirts are sexy because they show off a bit of leg and they provide a sense of easiness because of its flowy pattern. I love how these types of skirts accentuates your shape while also providing movement and fluidity. This skirt is the definition of giving you the best of both worlds; sexy and chic. This skirt would work well for a date or a nice day out in the park. Plus, side-slits are so versatile and work for almost every shape because of the way it hugs the body. These skirts are the real deal and I believe you can use them for any occasion. I definitely think side-slits are worth the investment. My prom dress this year also featured this hot trend.

8. White Suit

I must say that this look was one of my favorites. The crisp white against my skin tone was absolutely beautiful. And I love the way that the color gives a polished yet sophisticated feel. It might be a pain to wash, but I truly believe a classic, white suit is a worthwhile investment for everyone. This fashion trend typically involves white pants instead of shorts, but I actually enjoyed the way the white shorts worked with my ensemble. It allowed me to show off my legs and the white really made me look taller/longer which I loved. Simplicity is sometimes beautiful in fashion and the white suit is a perfect example of that sentiment. By far, this is the look everyone needs to have in their closet.

Like always, don’t feel pressured to try all the trends listed. However, I think all the trends are worth trying. All of these looks provide something unique and would give lots of diversity in your closet. Fashion is all about taking risks, so don’t be afraid to try these out even if it feels out of your comfort zone. I’m really excited about rocking all of these looks and I hope you are too.
