Being You Is a Peaceful State of Mind

Do you always want to eat the same things or go to the same places? Do you enjoy having variety and options in your life? Of course, you do! So why do you have issues with people that come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures or beliefs? It’s really disheartening that we are still tearing people apart because they are confident in wearing their hair natural one day and slaying a full sew-in the next day. They can kill it on the dance floor to a Beyoncé joint and vibe to a beautiful classical arrangement the next day. For those of you who choose to criticize other traditions or shun away from perspectives contradictory to yours, think about how much you’re missing out on because you’re afraid to venture out of your comfort zone.

I find it so enriching to meet individuals that share unique perspectives. I admire anyone that is not afraid to embrace other cultures, try new cuisines or do the things that makes them happy. When I’m with individuals who embrace their true selves, it is truly refreshing; almost peaceful. While I find peace within a non judgmental environment, I also achieve a peaceful mindset within myself. I simply allow myself to be openly honest about who I am and what I represent.

I know that no one is perfect and that it’s human nature to be subjected by biased influences. But being mindful about these behaviors will actually alleviate your mind of the daily stresses that exacerbate your life. Being socially and culturally sensitive is a tumultuous task. Just remember to ask yourself one simple question.

Why can’t we love all the styles, flavors and cultures that we can experience every day? Ask yourself this, and the answer will always be “why not?” No one should tell you what to wear, what makes your hair acceptable and what music makes you worthy of belonging to any particular group. Enjoy each other’s different looks and talents. If you want to wear your extensions, do a full face beat, dance like nobody else is watching,…remember…You are NOT…a SELL-OUT BUT a STAND-OUT. DO YOU!!! Being You Is a Peaceful State of Mind.
